CHRISTCHURCH. . Friday, October 1. (Before H. P. Murray Aynsley, Esq., J.P.) Drunk and Disorderly.— The following inebriates were dealt with :—Thos Diddle, who had given himself up at the depot, and was stiff suffering from the effects of drink, was remanded to Lyttelton for eight days for medical treatment; Wm Chapman was fined £l, or forty-eight hours; Patrick Kennedy, ss, or twenty-four hours; John Parker, 10s, or twenty-four hours; and Theresa Dixon, who was also proved on the evidence of Sergeant Wilson to have been repeatedly convicted of vagrancy, was a woman of ill repute, and had been leading a vagrant life for some time past, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labuor. Drunk and Using Obscene Language.— Mary Ann Greaves, a very old offender, was brought up charged with drunkenness and using obscene language in Cashel street the previous night. Sergeant Wilson gave evidence of the life led by the accused, who was one of the worst women in the town, and he had seen her the day before in a house in Colombo street south, which she had taken under an assumed name, with live men, being then in nearly a nude state. She was a thorough vagrant. Sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour. Larceny Thomas Henry DeLion was brought up charged with larceny of boots. Inspector Feast said the police had some boots in their possession, for which no owner had yet been found. He would ask for a remand until next day. Remanded until Saturday.
