In consequence of the broaching of cargo on the ship City of Auckland over kegs of powder, a representation on the careless stowage of kegs of powder on a passenger ship has been made to the Customs by the harbor master. Walling, a fireman, was drowned to-day swimming off to a boat anchored out. The football team received no reception of any kind. They passed into the town quietly with the other passengers. New Plymouth, September 29. The football match came to a conclusion at 1,15 p.m. Taranaki scored one goal and seven force downs, equal to nine and a half points ; Auckland two force downs, equal one point. There was some good play. Bishop Redwood arrived here last night. It is reported that the railway will be opened next week. Messrs Brogden intended to run a train to-day to Waitara, and a number of persons were invited, but Government issued orders that the carriages were not to be used, so the party had to be put off. Graham&TOWN, September 29. The Bright Smile Mine and Battery have been brought to a standstill, the Loan and Mercantile Agency having called in their advance. Shares sold yesterday at 3s. It is hoped the stoppage will he only temporary, as a large number of men will be thrown out of employment. Nelson, September 29. A movement is on foot, and favorably received, to form a limited liability company to purchase Messrs Webley’s Nelson cloth factory, with the view to enlarge the works and extend business. THIS HAY’S TELEGRAMS. Wellington, September 30. It is understood that the Representation Bill, which will probably be distributed tomorrow, will not affect the re-distribution of representation, but merely deal with cases where glaring inequality or injustice exists. It is proposed to relegate to the next Parliament a complete Bill for the Re-distri-bution of seats, after the colony shall have been divided into counties and shires. H. F, Campbell, charged with obtaining money under false pretences from the New Zealand Steam Shipping Company, was today committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court. Hokitika, September 30. The celebrated Cassius claim at Ross has been jumped, and application made for a cancellation of the lease to Cassius, on account of the rent being unpaid, and noncompliance with the leasing regulations. A company is proposed to be formed if a new lease be granted.
