[Per Pbess Agency, j Auckland, September 27. The schooner Ocean Wave has arrived from Levuka. She reports the Hawiian schooner Dauntless, from Auckland, was stranded on the outer reef north of the Island of Malaba. She had not got off when the Ocean-Wave left. Her cargo was sold by auction. No lives were lost. She is insured in the National for £IOOO, reinsured in the South British for £51)0.

The City Council has resolved to borrow another £IO,OOO for city improvements. Napier, September 27th.

The Provincial Government Gazette published on Saturday, contains an abstract of the receipts and expenditure of the Province of Hawkes Bay for the quarter ending SOth June. The balance to its credit at the Onion Bank at that date was £16,856 4s 4d. A musical and dramatic entertainment by the local amateurs, under the patronage of the Mayor, is announced at .the Oddfellows' Hall'for Wednesday evening, in aid of the prize fund of the Napier Artillery Volunteer Cadets. It promises to be a gay affair. The proceeds will be added to the amount given by Sir D. M'Lean, and are likely to make a good many prizes. The officers of the corps and many of the public are using every exertion to make the affair successful. At a meeting of the creditors of R. C. Hastie, late hotel-keeper, Taupo, to-day. the liabilities were stated at £1836, and the assets at £453. Mr Balharry, for Messrs Watt Bros, the principal creditors, offered the other creditors 2s 6d in the £ if they will sign over their claims. Arrangements to this effect will probably be carried out. Wellington, September 28. Arrived—The steamers Ringarooraa and Easby from the South, and at 9.30 last night H.M.S. Sappho from Auckland. Nelson, September 27. The football match commenced at 2 5 p.m. The weather was lovely. Nelton kicked off, and in two minutes obtained a touch down. Since then the game was very even, and no alteration took place till the goals were exchanged at 2.35. At 2.40 Nelson obtained a force-down, and one minute later another. Nothing more was done till the goals were again changed, at 35. Thegame terminated at four, when Nelson had scored six and a half points and Auckland half a point. Towards the close of the game Nelson carried the ball down to the Auckland goal with a fine rush, and scored three and a half points in four minutes. Both sides were heartily cheered by the spectators. The two teams afterwards dined together, and the Aucklanders leave for the North at seven. It was a well contested game. The Auekland team was heavier than the Nelson one.

Blenheim, September 27,

A very severe shock of earthquake was felt here on Saturday evening at six o'clock, the direction was north to south. It was accompanied with a rumbling noise right under the foot. Many persons were alarmed and ran out of their houses. There appeared to be only one shock, but it was followed by strong vibrations, which lasted about fifteen seconds. No damage was done. Hokitika, September 21.

Mr J. A. Learmonth, land agent and immigration officer, met with a serious accident from a pistol shot. He was shooting a stray cat in his back yard, when the pistol went off and penetrated near his heart. Little hopes are entertained of his recovery. Dunedin, September 27.

A meeting of the Turkish Bath Company was held on Saturday, and the report, which was satisfactory, was adopted, but no dividend was declared. The defalcations of Urquhart Macpherson, their late secretary, were stated to be over two hundred and sixty pounds. It was proposed to bring him back from Melbourne on a warrant, but it was not carried, as it was considered it would only be throwing good money after bad. He has written protesting against his children being sent to the Industrial school. He says he is in an appointment of four hundred a year, and will send for them. At half-past three this afternoon, a quantity of kerosene, stored in the shop of Mr Mercer, grocer, Rattray street, was discovered to be on fire, but owing to exertions of the brigade the fire was almost immediately extinguished. Its origin cannot be accounted for. FIJI NEWS. [Per Ocean Wave, via Auckland.] The colony of Fiji was proclaimed on September Ist. A meeting of planters, at which hie Excellency enunciated his policy,

took place on the 2nd. The Governor said the Executive Council would be a nominated one ; but he asked the planters to write on slips of paper four names of gentlemen whom they were desirous of having chopen, and he would give their recommendation great weight. His speech was a long and able one. He called on the planters to say which is the most suitable place for the capital. A handsome Good Templar hall has been opened at Levuka. A large sugar mill has commenced operations at Suva Suva Bay, amidst great rejoicings. Considerable uneasiness was felt at the non-arrival of the Star of the South. The maize crops are looking well, and considerable shipments to Auckland are expected. News has reached Levuka of the murder of Mr John Kees, at Apia, by natives.
