Resident Magistrates’ Court, Ashburton. —A great many people were put to a deal of annoyance, expense, and trouble, on Friday last, through the non-appearance of the Resident Magistrate on the Bench, at Ashburton, it being the usual monthly court day, and as the Justices of the Peace have given up attending on these days, not any of the cases could be heard, and all the prisoners had to be retained in custody. On the following notice being posted up outside the Court House, the crowd dispersed. “ Resident Magistrate’s Court, Ashburton— The Resident Magistrate being unable to attend the Court to-day, notice is hereby given, that the cases which should have been heard to-day, are ordered for hearing on Friday next, October Ist, By order, (signed) J.
