CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, September 24. (Before Dr Back, J.R.) Drunk and Disorderly. —The following inebriates were dealt with :—William Norgrove, fined 5s and cab hire ; Joseph Goodwin, ss; Joseph Hanna, ss; and Thomas Cleary, who had been repeatedly before the Bench, was fined 20s, or 48 hours. Drunk and Illegally on Premises.— Mary Cunningham, an old offender, who was cautioned when last before the Bench, was brought up charged with being drunk and found illegally on the premises of Mr Jordan in Madras street, and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour, John Spinks, Mary Ann Greaves, Theresa Dixon, and Annie Osbourne were charged with being illegally on premises in Colombo street south. Sergeant Kennedy deposed to finding the accused in the house at halfpast two o’clock in the morning. The agent for the premises (Mr Bradley) stated that the women had lived in the house at one time, with a man named Hall, who had been lately convicted for keeping a disorderly house. ’The women had broken the windows a few nights ago, and forced their w-ay into the house. It was stated by the Sergeant that there was some bedding in the house belonging to defendants, and also some wearing apparel. His Worship said he would dismiss the charge on the distinct understanding that the accused did not go near the house again.
