CHKISTCHUKCH. Wednesday, September 22. [Before Dr. Back, J.P.] Drunk and Disorderly. William Fisher, his first offence, was lined 5s ; Margaret Dempscy, who had only been released a few days from gaol, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment on a charge of drunkenness ; S. H. Richards, who had also resisted the police, was fined 10s. Drunk and Breaking a Pane of Glass. —James Aitken, charged with being drunk and breaking a pane of glass in the schoolroom attached to the Congregational Church, Avas fined 10s and 8s damage done. [Before his Worship the Mayor and Drßack.] Larceny.—John Black, late barman at Carl's Hotel, was charged with this offence. The evidence showed that the accused had stolen a cruet-stand, valued at £3 15s, from the Borough Hotel, a brush, fork, and spoons from the Empire Hotel, and some linen from the clothes line of Mr J. Fennerty, Manchester street. The prisoner had been arrested at the Wellington Hotel, where he was lodging, and the articles found in a bag belonging to him. The prisoner was convicted on each charge, ?nd sentenced to six months' imprisonment with hard labour.
