Nathan, chairman of the local committee, pointing out the necessity cfthe Eoyal Commission granting some extension of time for. reception of exhibits so as to enable exhibitors at the agricultural show of Bth and, 9th November, to forward exhibits of their produce. .. The Chairman said that the following reply .had,been'.received, from the Hon W. B. D. Mantell, which would now be read by the secretary:— " Colonial Museum, Wellington, " September 2nd, 1875. " Sir, —In reply to your letter of August 2ith, in which.you again call my attention to the desirability of granting, if possible, some extension of time beyond the 16th of November for receiving exhibits, I have the honor to inform you having again- ha,d this matter under consideJflfiSl. JSSfflfc that they find it impossible to make any further alterations in the dates

fixed for receiving exhibits beyond those specified in my telegram to you of the 21st 6f August. " From information received by the Commissioners, it would appear that the transmission of exhibits by , the February mail steamer would probably result in their being all shut out of the exhibition—a risk which the Commissioners do not feel justified in incurring, and by. which they would be saddled with heavy expenses for freight, &c, with no good result. : .:,r .< "The Commissioners would suggest that exhibitors . at . the Agricultural■ ■* bow at I Christchurch, in November, who desire to be represented at should send duplicate samples to you for transmission to Wellington at the same time when they send to the Agricultural Show. "With regard to exhibits of grain, the Commissioners would prefer to receive samples of last year's growth. " Should these suggestions meet with your approval, exhibitors will be able to comply with the wishes of the Commissioners as already communicated to you. The chairman said that since they had last met he had received amended copies of the conditions as to the regulations affecting wool. He.hoped' to hear from representatives of they had had promises of'support from exhibitors.; So far as the miscellaneous - committee was concerned, of which he (the chairman) was a member, he might say that they had not received any .promises of support from exhibitors yet. He hoped, however, that other aub-cdmmittees would be more fortunate. It would perhaps be as well to prepare a circular to those who took an interest in the Vienna Exhibition, asking them to come iotward aril help>the r, committeei The comiriissiottersrihad that the exhibi- ' tors at the November show should duplicate their exhibits-and. forward them to Philadelphia ;<andit Would; be as well to consider .•thisquestioni. •-,-. -29 fftlr Cunningham said that he was sorry to • ! -say that* aViar'as the grain and seeds class was - concerned, /they had not received much supy.ipo'rb ;• indeed, bnlessthere was more support* 'MrLane and'himself would be the only ex- - hibitors. Mr Coateß said, as regarded the wool class, he might say the sub-committee had f held two rileetingsj ' and had drawn up a circular containing all the necessary information, which it was intended to forward to the various sheepowners in the province. He would, on behalf of the sub-committee, ask, for an appropriation of funds to enable the committee to carry out the printing. ,/ Mr ,Aynsley moved committee for wool be authorised to have circulars printed'in accordance with the draft copy submitted." He thought the . Comiriissioners were, perfectly right to take this power, because they might have a number of exhibits of a similar class coming from various parts of the colony, and therefore it was, on'the score of expense and the proper representation of the colony, necessary that the Royal Commission should have the power of revision. ,->••■'--'•- -- Mr Potts said that as regarded the mineral class, Dr von Haast had not received any exhibits-at present r but he thought it was • likely that the, exhibits at.the Vienna- ExhiS -J)itionwould-come.forwardsii <,-• -- J ' Thjmewtmg'ttoen^adjowned*'■ ■+m-*-
