MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, September 14. (Before G. L. Hellish, Esq., R.M.) Assault. —Mark Kane, who failed to appear the previous day when called, was brought up on warrant, charged with assaulting his wife Dora Kane, and also with disobeying a summons. Mr O’Neill appeared for the complainant, and said his client was willing that the information should be withdrawn if her husband would allow her to live by herself and not molest her. Complainant stated that she and her husband had some few words on Monday, 6th September, about some clothes. He took hold of her, threw her down, and kicked her. He afterwards forced her into the bedroom and attempted to choke her. On a previous occasion shortly before this he had horsewhipped her, and both when he was drunk and sober had illused her. She would like to be protected from his violence. She owned the house they lived in and some cattle before she was married to her present husband. After hearing defendant’s statement, his Worship adjourned the case to allow of a deed of separation being drawn up between the parties.
