ROAD BOARDS.
AVON. The usual meeting of the Avon Road Board took place yesterday. There were present Messrs Peacock, Dickinson, and Duncan. Mr Peacock was voted to the chair. Messrs Reese and others saw the Board, first in reference to the grant for clearing the Styx river, and said that those interested in the work were willing to be special rated to obtain the grant in aid. The Board said it would be inclined to supplement the special rate from the general fund, and after some discussion as to the amount the special rate would bring, it was decided that the clerk prepare for next meeting a list of the properties coming within the special district to be rated. Next the deputation asked the Board to levy a special rate to open up the No 2 drain from the Lake to Rhodes’ Hole. It was decided before coming to any decision that the surveyor take a section of the proposed drain and lay it before the Board at its next meeting. Accounts were passed, and the Board adjourned.
