By the arrival of the ship Alumbagh. from London, we are placed in possession of the following information by Captain Lowe, concerning a disasier that has occurred at sea to some unfortunate vessel, the name of which is at present unknown- 1 ' June 24th, passed an abandoned ship close enough to make out that she was an iron ship, totally dismasted, and floating very light; evidently been burnt out, the stern being too charred to make out her name; position, 26 deg. 29 min S., 31 deg. 18 min. W. A full-rigged ship in company also saw the derelict. She was apparently a vessel of between twelve and fourteen hundred tons.” We And on reference to a late “ Liverpool Mercury ” that the abandoned ship has been sighted by other vessels and reported at home, such infermation being afforded that may eventually lead to her identification. The “ Liverpool Mercury,” of the 25th June, reports that “late on Wednesday night the French steamer Augustine Edwards anchored off Falmouth from Iqulque for orders, and Captain Etchwary reported that on the 7th May, in lat. 27.35 S., long. 32.30 W., he passed a large iron ship, entirely burnt out, and with no signs of fife on board. The sea was too rough to permit the boat ding of the derelict, but the captain made out on her stern the letters 4 T. J.,’ apparently belonging to the name, and 4 L I,’ being the commencement of the name of the port from which she hailed. On Thursday, the German vessel Theresa Beku, called at the same port from Mazatlan, her captain (Stellas) reports having sighed the same derelict on the 11th April, in lat. 30.20 S., long. 34.2 W. He also saw no sign of life about the ship. In addition to theletters 44 T.J.’ he alsomftdeout ,4 N.D.” as part of the name, and in that of the port a portion of the third letter ‘V’ was discernabic, making 4 L I V.’ Fears are entertained that the whole of (he crew of this vessel are lost.” 44 Auckland Herald.”
