Grahamstowk, August 23. Mr Walter Williamson, a well known prospector and Thames pioneer, died this morning of apoplexy. He got bushed between Puriri and Tairua some time ago, and never fully recovered. GREYiIOUTH, August 23, Mr Allen F. Stark, part proprietor and associate editor of the Grey River Argus , died yesterday morning, after a short illness. Deceased was one of the oldest inhabitants of Greymouth. He was formerly connected with the Otago Daily Times . Hokitika, August 23. Arrived—Tararua, from Melbourne. In consequence of the heavy sea and rough weather, she has gone on to Nelson without being tendered. In the roadstead, Prosperity, from Melbourne. Dunedin, August 23. At a meeting at Taieri on Saturday a resolution was passed—“ That the measures should not be passed till the electors had an opportunity of expressing an opinion at the general election.” It commenced to rain heavily and steadily last night, and continued incessantly. The Water of Leith is in heavy flood, and logs are coming down from the sawmills. The Kensington township is under water. In Forth street the inhabitants had to leave their houses. The water came down Maclaggan fstreet in torrents. The premises of Messrslsaacand Marks, clothiers, were flooded. The estimated damage amounts to one hundred sterling. It is still raining heavily, and there are no signs of it leaving off. A man named Cunningham had a narrow escape from being scalded to death at Bridmau’s tannery, Gaversham, on Saturday. He was looking into a vat, when his foot slipped, but he caught the supports at the sides. As it was, his legs were badly scalded, and he has been removed to the hospital.
