Alexander Collie, who last month was committed for trial on a charge of fraud, has absconded. His bail has been estreated. The [insurrection in Herzegovina, a province of Turkey in Europe is increasing in importance as it has the sympathies of the Montenegrians, Servians, and Dalmatians. The Roman Catholic Bishops in Prussia are conforming to the new law with reference to the administration of church property. COMMERCIAL. Adelaide flour is quoted at 35s to 40s. Copper has improved; Australian, £B6 to £9O. Tin is firmer; Straits, £80; Australian, £76 to £77. [Per Press Agency.] Auckland,'August 21. At a meeting of the electors of Franklin a resolution was submitted in favor of immediate abolition. It was followed by an amendment that the Bill should not become law. The amendment was carried by thirteen to seven. Wellington, August 21. At a public meeting at Bull’s, Rangitikei, held last night, the following resolution was passed unanimously:—“That this meeting is in favor of the immediate abolition of the provinces and the passing of Local Government Bill this session.” August 22. At a meeting at the -Hutt last night a resolution was carried by a large majority in favor of remitting the Abolition Bill to the country before becoming law. Sir G, Grey and Mr Fitzherbert addressed the meeting.
