The Eden electors, last night, carried the same resolution as was adopted at the previous evening at Parnell, and also the following—“ That the electors of Eden request their member (Mr Creighton) to support Sir George Grey in his efforts to obtain justice for the province, and to oppose the passing of the Abolition Bill this session.” Wellington, August 13. The Ferry Hotel near Porirua was totally destroyed by fire at two this morning. Its owners, Nelson, Mrs Nelson, and family were on the premises. The house has not been licensed for some time, and has been in the market for lease or sale. Nothing was saved. The telegraph wires passing in front of the house were so much injured that communication with the West Coast was interrupted. The building is insured in the South British for £3OO, and the furniture for £2OO. Dunedin, August 13. The candidates for the vacant seat of Caversham are Messrs Larnach, Stout, and Barton.
