CITY COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the City Council was held yesterday at 10 a.m. to consider certain resolutions, relative to the borrowing of money on account of drainage._ Present — His Worship the Mayor, Crs Bishop, Raphael. Ick, and Calvert, The town clerk read the Gazette notice relative to the meeting, also the advertisements given in the local fapers, pursuant to the Act The minutes of the last special meeting having been read and confirmed, . i ; Cr Raphael moved—“ That this Council agrees to borrow the sum of £9OOO to meet the expenses of the works in connection with the drainage of the city, which will be undertaken during the present year. The said amount to be raised on debentures of £SO each, bearing interest at 6 per cent per annum, payable half-yearly, and issued for a term of fifty years, and secured on a special rate of Id in the £.”
Or Calvert seconded the motion, which was agreed to. Or Ick moved—“ That the town clerk be instructed to give the notices required, under clause 144 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1867, relating to special orders, and that a special meeting of the Council be held on Saturday, September 11th, at 10 a.m.” Cr Bishop seconded the motion, which was carried. —The meeting then adjourned.
