A meeting will take place this evening to consider the possibility and advisability of sending four representatives from New Zealand to Philadelphia to compete in the international contest. Mr Walker, the champion smallbore, is moving in the matter. Auckland. July 30. The Phoebe yesterday took the first Government steam launch for Wellington. Those for Dunedin and Christchurch will probably go next trip, Mr Creighton has telegraphed to his proposer and seconder asking whether the Eden constituency approved of immediate abolition, or thought the question should be decided by nest general election. Invercargill, July 30. The first Invercargill Ploughing Champion Match took place to-day, in a paddock belonging to Adamson, of Chatsworth, close to town. There were twenty eight competitors, thirteen double, and fifteen single furrow ploughs. The weather was very favorable, and the match a most decided success. About 800 people were present. THIS DAY’S TELEGRAMS. Waimate, July 30. John Henry Bidder shot his mate William Horn dead between six and seven this morning while duck shooting near this place. Horn’s brains were blown out. It is supposed to be .an accident. Bidder is in custody in great distress of mind. [FROM OUR AUCKLAND CORRESPONDENT.] Auckland, July 30. The Auckland cricketing committee has not yet met to consider the Australian cricketers proposals, but no doubt will not entertainjfor a moment the terms offered. The impression is growing that the writer in the Australasian , who was rather roughly handled by the New Zealand press, knew that the Australian cricketers intended to try and make the trip a monetary [speculation. The acting Resident Magistrate to-day ordered a storekeeper to pay an amount sued for in ten days or go to gaol for six weeks, believing he was resisting payment from mere obstinacy. The amount was only £l6, and the defendant had paid £5 to a lawyer to put him through the lusolvencj Court rather than pay it. He afterwards admitted that it was his intention.
