W. gale on the night of the eleventh instant, when she was hove-to for twelve hours. All the square sails, which were furled at the time, were blown away. The captain says it was the fiercest gale he has encountered for twenty-lour years. She brings the jarrah piles for the Moeraki deviation of the Brogden contract. Dunedin, July 14. The old newspaper case, Carrick v Pyke, was finally settled to-day. Mr Bathgate gave judgment for £72 10s, and costs for Carrick. This includes £65 paid into Court, The full amount claimed was £BS. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Insurance Company this afternoon, the report showed that the premiums received amounted to £78,332, being an increase of £17,115 over the last half-year. The marine losses are above the average, including the Cospatrick, Blencathra, Gothenburg, and Jason’s Hotel losses. £62,444 remains to credit.
