Melbourne. —The Melbourne “ Argus” of the 30th June, reports:—ln the import markets to-day business has not been marked by much of special character. The demand generally has not been brisk, though occasionally enlivened by an exceptional transaction to which some Interest is attached. Breadstuffs continue to Improve in value. Flour has been sold at better rates. A small parcel was disposed of by auction in the forenoon at £lO 17s 6d, and we learn that sales privately have also been made at a similar rate, thus showing an advance of 2s 6d. Wheat is also a trifle firmer; there is not much offering. Holders ask 5s 3d, but buyers do not care to give more than 5s 2d as yet, and we have not heard of any actual business over. Oats arc quiet, and not inclined to move very freely. Feeding sorts, common to fair quality, realize 3s 6d to 3s 9d. We do not hear of any sales of milling. Under the hammer Tasmanian coast oats were sold at 3s 4d to 3s 5-Jd. Malting barley is wanted, and sales are making. A line of 1000 bags New Zealand has, we understand, been taken up at a very full price. Maize, sound, is quoted at 4s 7d to 4s 7£d. By auction some 4080 bags Fijian grown offered as damaged, were cleared off at 4s. There is a fair business doing in sugar. By auction, this forenoon, about 1843 bags and mats Mauritius, Bourbon, and other sugars were disposed of, when grey brewings and grey crystals were placed at £31155, whitish counters at £34 10s, low grey counters at £25 5s ; while low to middling and good rations were disposed of' at £2O Iss to £22 15s, and £24 to £24 ss. We also learn that the cargo of Mauritius sugars per St Mauer, about 2200 bags, has changed hands privately. Teas are moving off quietly; trade parcels of common congous in half chests have been quitted at is Id ; of the fancy teas ex Portland, 500 boxes gunpowder and pekoes were sold at up to Is Id: 520 half chests and boxes congous were also cleared off atß|d to The sales of timber comprise the Blue Jacket’s cargo of Oregon timber, consisting of 898,470 feet, sold on account of whom it may concern, realising £5 17s 6d to £7 12s 6d per 100 feet super; 4jft pickets brought £7 10s, and laths fetched 225: 233 deals spruce, 9 by 3, all faults, brought 3d 5-lOths; clear pine, and Sin, realised £l3 ss, and 21n £l2 ss; white pine shelving was sold at £ll; doors were at the same time quitted at 12s 3d to £!3s each.”
