PORT OP LYTTELTON. July 12—9 a.m., wind S.W., fresh breeze; weather cloudy. Barometer. 29.50; thermometer, 62. High water—Morning. 11.10 ; afternoon, 11.21. There waa a strong gale blowing during the day, but owing to timely notice there was little danger incurred by the shipping. At 9.30 a.m. the following from Wellington was received by the Harbor Master:—“ Wellington, 9.10 a.m., 12th— Watch barometer; bad weather approaching; probably north-west to south-west; barometer now ll.ll; thermometer 60. (Signed) R. A. Edwin, 8.N.” About 11 a.m. the signal was made to drop second anchor, as the breeze was increasing. A few of the small vessels drifted a little, notably the Flirt, but up to the time of our express leaving, thanfca to the timely warning from Wellington, and the precautions taken, no casualty occurred. At 1 p.m. the wind was very strong, and continued ■O till night. The following telegrams were sent to Wellington from Lyttelton during the day:— « Barometer at Lyttelton, 9 a.m., 29.38: thermometer. 47; wind aw., 4 (moderatebreeze); detached clouds, blue sky visible between.” “ 1 p.m.—Barometer, 29.70; thermometer, 60; S.W. 11 (strong ■ale); detached clouds, blue sky visible between.’ * 4 p.m.— Barometer, 29.83; thermometer, 49; wind B.W, 11 (strong gale); detached clouds, blue sky visible between,—H. McLellan, D.H.M.” ARRIVED. July 13—Excelsior, schooner, Joiner, from the Thames. July 18—Samuel Merritt, barque, 259 torn, Holden, from Clarence River, Australia. July 13—Margaret, ketch, 21 tons, Rich, from Kaiapoi. CLEARED, July 13—Hadda, barque, 334 tons, J. L. Parker, for Newcastle. Woledge and Co, agents. July 13 -Queen of the Sea, barque, 322 tons, Robinson for Hobart Town, in ballast. SAILED. July 13—E. U. Cameron, schooner, 41 tons, Ashman, for Akaroa. July 13—Courier, ketch, 31 tons, Sinclair, for Pigeon Bay. The wind being favorable, the barques Coq du Village and Samuel Merritt ran up the harbor this morning from the Heads, as also did the schooner Excelsior. The Coq du Village and Excelsior were detained at the Heads through stress of weather since Sunday, and the Samuel Merritt since Monday morning.
