Very few operations In grain with farmers have come under our notice since Last week, and prices remain much the same. Milling wheat has taken a slightly downward tendency, millers being disinclined to purchase at our last quotations, owing to large quantities ol both wheat and flour fiom Adelaide being Imported into Auckland and other Northern ports. Considerable shipments of oats have gone North from Otago, and we notice the arrival at Lyttelton from Tiraaruof over 2000 sacks, grain merchants being enabled to land oats and again reship at a less cost than they can purchase here. Barley remains dull, and no sale except for prime milling samples. Potatoes show a decidedly downward tendency, our principal buyers having executed orders] will not lay in a stock at present prices, and have ceased purchasing. Butter and cheese have been oftering freely during the week, and prices show signs of weakening. Buyers’ quotations are:—Prime milling wheat, 3s 4d to 3s 6dj do oats, 2s 9d; barley. Is 6d; flour—sacks, £d 10s; 1001 b bags, £9 17s 6d; 501bs bags, £lO Ss; bran, £4 10s; sharps, £5 10s, and 10s extra f.o b.; potatoes, £3 to £3 ss; butter, Is 2d; cheese, g-jd; hams and bacon—bare, l0|d; cloth, lid. We have very little improvement to report on last week’s transactions in the import market, sales for the most part being confined to trade parcels. Several lines in spirits have shown activity—sales in SherriiPs Islay whiskey have been made at 6s 4d i.b. Ilennessy’s bulk brandy meets with favor at 9s, several parcels of good second brands, in this line, have been disposed of at 7s to 7s 3d; Swaine Bord’Scase old tom commands 14s 3d to 14s 6d, for clearing lines. Sugars have received a fair amount of attention from the trade, white crystals meeting with most favor—sales have bien made at £45 to £4O dp. ior white crystals, and £43 10s to £44 for yellow crystals. Teas have not called for any remark, only very few sales have taken place. Sales have been made in twist tobacco, at Is sd to Is Od i.b.: flat tobaecoes meet with but small sale; aromatics have been disposed of at Is lOd to 2s i.b. Ales and stouts —The market for the former is rather dull, but stouts move off freely at fair x>riccs; we hear of a shipment of Blood woolfe’s sold to arrive, price withheld. The full market price for stout is 11 s6d to 12s, for clearing lines. A few lots of No 9 dicing wire have been quitted, at £24. Candles are still low in stock—lid to Hid is the price obtained for parcels. Kerosene remains linn, at 2s 2d d.p. Vinegar—The market is almost entirely bare: wo bear of sales made at 2s Od. Stocks will be more than ample in a few weeks, as there is a great quantity now on the way from the London market. Dried Fruits—Currants and Klcraes are very scarce, the former realising 5d to oja, the latter O-Jd to 7d.
