CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, June 23. (Before Alexander Lean, Esq, J.P.) Drunk while in Charge of a Horse and Vehicle. —William Oakly, charged with furious driving and being drunk while in charge of a horse and vehicle, was fined 10s. Drunk and Resisting the Police.— John Corboy, arrested for being drunk and resisting the police, and against whom there was a long list of convictions, was fined 20s, or forty-eight hours. Illegally on Premises. —John Green, charged with drunkenness and being found illegally an the premises of Mr C, Ditford Madras street, was fined 20s. Drunk and Threatening his Wife.— James Sutton was charged with threatening the life of his wife, and using abusive language in a public thoroughfare. When information was received at the depot after one o’clock that morning, Sergeant Wilson proceeded to Addington to prisoner’s house, and saw him rushing out of the house after his wife, who was screaming for her life at the time, The accused was drunk, and was using most disgusting language with reference to her. The neighbours had complained of accused’s conduct disturbing them at all hours of the night. The magistrate said that as there were some circumstances connected with the case that would have to be inquired into, he would remand accused until Friday next.
