MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
, CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, June 22. (Before W. D. Carruthers, and Bennetts, Esqs., J.P.s.) Drunk and Disorderlev.— JohnCorboy, charged with this offence, was fined 20s or forty-eight hours. Drunk and Illegally on Premises.— Denis J. Buckley, arrested for being found illegally on the premises of H. Goodger, corner of Lichfield and Madras streets, at a late hour the previous night, was fined 20s or forty-eight hours. Assaulting his Wife. —Anthony Derrick was charged with this offence. The complainant stated that she mid her husband had a civil growl the previous night, and he knocked her down and jumped upon her. He also struck her in the face and gave her the black eyes she then had. Mrs Amy Ross, a next door neighbour, corroborated this evidence. F. J. Ormandy, who lives next door but one to defendant, said that he (defendant) was a hard working sober man, but his wife was a violent woman, and addicted to drink. Remanded until Friday for thQ police to make inquiries,
