San Francisco, May 21. A correspondent says:—Freights have been very dull during the past week. In wheat, charters for England for immediate loading almost nothing has been done. During the past few days six or seven ships have been chartered for Liverpool on long bay, the days ranging from thirty to forty-five working days—and the rate from £2 to £2 2s fid. The Liverpool wheat market is quoted at San Francisco at 9s to 9s 2d per cental for average Californian, and 9b 2d to 9s fid for Club. Devoe’s petroleum is steady at cents to 29 and 30 cents. The wheat market is steady, and the demand quiet, at Idol 65c to Idol 75c per lOOlbs ; oats, 2dol to 2dol 20c per cental for light feed. New York, May 23. The San Francisco Chronicle's correspondent says : —Reports of injury to the crop of winter wheat have been set aside fer the moment, and a grasshopper plague substituted. The reported destruction, however, is greatly exaggerated, and is not likely to have any material effect. The wool market shows no improvement as regards the amount of trade. . Sales of Californian new spring have been made at 30c to 35c ; old, 22c to 29c ; scoured, 65c to Hides, for bull, prices are irregular. Petroleum is dull ane nominal, at 12c for crude ; in bulk, 6c ; in case, 17c to 19c.
