The purser reports having left that port at noon on Sunday, N.E. winds, arriving as above. Whilst in Dunedin the Ladybird was taken on the Graving Dock, and underwent a course of cleaning and renovating below the water line, and shipped a new steel screw shaft. The Ladybird Bails North this afternoon. Captain Densem has succeeded in converting the steamer Brighton into a serviceable little harbor boat. When she arrived here from Lyttelton she was a decided oddity—appeared to be fearfully and wonderfully made, and inclined to the ludicrous. Otago shipwrights have, however, effected quite a metamorphosis in the little vessel. All the deck top-hamper has been removed, and"the deck space increased by extending the sponsons round her, and so forming an overhanging deck. She has been lilted with a nice little cabin aft, and her machinery has been overhauled and put Into thorough order. Yesterday she made her first appearance at the Port as the steamer Portobello, such being her new name. She ran round the harbor, and impi-oved the opportunity by landing the passengers per ship Andrew Keid. She steamed ■well, and will, we hope, realise the expectations of hsr owner. We notice by advertisement that the Portobello will make the round of the harbor from Duuedin on Tuesdays and Fridays, calling at Port Chalmers and Portobello.—" Otago Times," May 21st. The barquentine Prince Alfred, Captain Bennett, will leave to-day for Port Lyttelton with a full cargo of timber, shipped at Gibbon's Mill, on account ot Mr John Keid. She will be towed out of the river this morniDgr by the p.s. Lalla Kookh, and clear for her destination. She will load at Lyttelton a return cargo of produce for Thames and Auckland importers.—" Thames Advertiser," Slay 15th.
