ROAD BOARDS.
HEATHCOTB.
This Board held its usual fortnightly meeting on Thursday last. Present—Messrs J. T. Fisher (Chairman), Attwood, Ness, and Dunlop. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The clerk's receipts for the fortnight were: subscriptions to footpaths, and for cutting gorse fences, £7 12s ; Waimakiriri rate, £2 7s 8d ; ordinary road rate, £32 Is lOd. Total, £42 Is 6d. Resolved that Mr Huddleston be instructed to take the levels along the Ferry road, from Smith's road to Wilson's road, north of the Ferry road drain, preparatory to forming side channels. That the Government be written to calling their attention to the necessity of moving the gate at the railway station on Garland's road, near the Opawa school, as it is an obstruction to the road. That the foreman mend the Ferry road in places where most required to the extent of 100 yards of shingle. That the attention of the City Council be called to the bad state of the South belt at the entrance to the Gasworks road; also the bad state of the footpath on the Bast town belt, the same being cut up by cart traffic, and to be informed that when Jthe Board paid its half for making that portion of road and footpath it was certainly under the impression that the footpath was to be shingled and also not to be made to the width of 20ft, and that now the Heathcote ratepayers are in a worse position than they were before. That the Government be informed there are several houses occupied on Government land in the Heathcote valley which the Board receive no rates from. Mr F. Pavitt's offer for for surveying instruments was deferred till next meeting. A petition, from Messrs
Woodward and Dempsey. offering to pay their share of half the cost of forming and shingling footpath from East town belt to Duncan's road. To be informed the cost of making and shingling same would be £3 per chain, and that as soon as the money was paid the work would be done. Letter from Mr Miers, re contract, asking for an advance. Agreed to. From Mrs Loughnan calling the Board's attention to the necessity of clearing the drain in front of her premises. The foreman to see to it. From J. Wilkinson asking to have his name put on the roll as he had to pay rates. To be informed it would be when the next assessment was made. From Mr J. Whitelaw, asking that Going's road might be repaired, pointing out the necessity on account of the great traffic, and also the number of children attending school down that road. Agreed to. The clerk was instructed that he was to collect the rates due to the Board for the year 1875 within three months from the time of striking the same, and that if it was necessary, he was to take legal proceedings against all ratepayers who did not pay within the thirty days allowed by the Ordinance. Accounts to the amount of £72 18s 6d were parsed for payment, when the Board adjourned.
