The fine schooner Mary Bannatyne, Captain Munn, arrived in harbour this morning from Wellington, after a smart run of twenty-four hours. She arrived at Wellington about the beginning of the month from Melbourne, after a stormy passage of eighteen days. She had the misfortune to lose a man overboard, named Joseph Kitchen. The s.s. Beautiful Star arrived in harbour this morning from South. A number of vessels who were windbound sailed this morning through the wind changing from the N.E. to S.E. The schooner Alert and ketch Eeliance, coal laden, from Greymouth, arrived this morning. . The schooner Richard and Mary, which was reported by telegram some time back as having foundered, arrived last night from Havelock. The s.B. Tararua, Captain Clark, discharged 12 tons of cargo, and took on board 100 tons of produce, and sailed for Melbourne, via Northern Ports, at 1.15 p.m. yesterday. The brigantine Mary Bannatyne, which arrived at Wellington about the beginning- of the month, ftom Melbourne, sailed from that port yesterday for Lyttelton. , Captain Miles Informs us that the bngantir.e Helena, timber laden, was expected to leave Whanearoafor Lyttelton, a day or so after he left, and may therefore be expected to Bhow up to-day or tomorrow. „ „ ..j The schooners J. G. Coleson, for Greymouth, and Flying Cloud, for Taranaki, are still in harbor, wlndbound. They will proceed to sea the first change of wind from the South. It was stated yesterday that the Strathnaver, from Lyttelton to Hokitika, which sailed from here on Friday week, was lying in Port Levy. The schooner Spray, Captain Euxton, arrived In harbor yesterday, at 3.30 p.m , from Havelock. The captain reports that he left Havelock on May Bth; cleared the sound at 3 p.m. on May 9th, with strong SE. wind: anchored in Guards Bay on May 10th: left rgain at 2 p,m. on May 11th, with light easterly winds'; passed Cape Campbell at 3 p.m. on May 13th Yesterday morning, the wind veered round to the N.E., which lasted till her arrival off Peacook's Wharf. The s.B. Halcyon was out on Thursday afternoon for the purpose of recovering the Lady Jocelyn's cable, but was unsuccessful in doing so, the sea being too heavy to allow of its being weighed, though its locality was distinctly ascertained. On the previous day the pilot and his crew swept the cable several times, but were unable to hold on to it. Yesterday the ship's boats were busy with the same object, but as they failed, Messrs Cameron Brothers s s. Mullough and the Moa were sent out, the one to sweep for the anchor, and the other, that baa a patent apparatus for that purpose, to recover It when found. As there are 105 fathoms out of 2£inch chain, besides an anchor weighing throe tons, it is no easy matter to recover it, particularly taking into account the heavy NE. roll. The fine brig Rie Loge left Wangaroa on the 27th of last month at 3 a.m., there being then a light land breeze; ran round the North Cape the following day with a strong easterly breeze and heavy easterly sea; was off Manakau on the Ist, when the wind hauled to the southward and blew a heavy gale, during which the vessel was hovc-to for forty-eight hours. On the 6th rounded Cape Egmont, with light N.E. winds; from the 6th to the 12th were knocking about in Cook'd Straits, the weather being very thick •with heavy rain, wind light from the eastward. Cape Campbell was rounded on the night of the 12th and thence light variable and easterly winds till the Heads were sighted at II a.m. yesterday; ran up harbor, and anchored off the breakwater at 6p.m7, and will be brought up to discharge at No 3 Wharf to-day.
