A Dutchman overheard one carman say to another, bantering him about his bonylooking horse, " I say, Tom, you had better put a blanket on that horse, so the wind won't blow the hay out of him." The laugh which followed convinced the Dutchman that it was a tremendous joke, and he resolved to have a turn at it himself the first good chance he got. We can hardly blame the scholars of our common schools for playing " hookey" and otherwise absenting themselves from the teachers' sway, for the luxuries of attending school are gradually being given up. A school teacher in Northport, L. 1., tried hard to make learning pleasant, but he was dismissed by the trustee because he allowed the boys to kiss the girls while school was in session. After a while, if this thing keeps on, there will be no inducement for boys and girls to go to school.
