MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, May 14. [Before W. D. Carruthers, Esq., J.P.j Drunk and Disorderly.— James Dooley, charged with drunkenness, was fined 10s. Thomas Richards, arrested for being drunk, striking the constable violently after arrest, breaking his lamp, and smashing his hat, was fined £4, and ordered- to pay 16s 6d damages, and 6s expenses of witness ; in default, a fortnight’s imprisonment. Vagrancy. —Roderick Fitzmaiirice, who had been found the previous night wandering about the triangle, and had stated to the police that ’he had no home or money, was discharged -with a caution. Drunk and-Indecent Exposure.— John Smith, who had been arrested for being drunk, committing an act of exposure, and insulting a female near the theatre, was fined £2, or ninety- six hours’ imprisonment.
Attempt to Commit Suicide. —George Johnson, who had attempted to commit suicide on the 11th April, at Lincoln, by cutting his throat with a knife, was now brought up on the charge. The accused, who had.been an inmate of the hospital since committing the act, said that he had been drinking for some time, and did not know what he was doing. Discharged with a caution.
Larceny as a Bailee. —Thomas Simpson, who had been arrested that morning at the hospital on the charge of appropriating monies belonging to H. Brant, of Lyttelton, was, on thq application .of Chief. Detective Feast, remanded to Port.
