NORMAL SCHOOL v. COLLEGE.
To the Editor of the Globe, Sir, — I live in the north-west part of Christchurch, and therefore pay school and building rates for that district, and take a good deal of interest in our district schools. I was therefore somewhat surprised and alarmed on reading in the Globe the statement of the Provincial Secretary that he proposed to use the Normal School for a College, especially when I consider that gentleman’s opposition to the Education Ordinance, and after we had been led to expect the Normal School to be used as a district school, the ratepayers of Christchurch west district having paid considerably towards building it. I again say I was greatly surprised at what one might call the stab in the dark that the Provincial Secretary was giving us. You will, I am sure, excuse this rough statement; but if I shall have succeeded in calling the attention of those so directly concerned, I shall not have written in vain. Yours, &c., H. A.
