MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, May 10. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq, R.M.) Drunkenness. —Thomas Pardew, fined 5s ; John Paine Wilcox, who, in addition to drunkenness was charged with indecency, was fined 20s ; Wm E. Burt, fined 10s ;Wm Teague, fined 10s ; Wm Redmond, fined 5s ; Thomas Cresswell, fined ss. Drunk and Destroying Private Property,—Edward Rowland pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness and wilfully destroying private property. It appeared that the defendant went on Friday to Willis’ Hotel, at the Malvern Hills, and demanded drink. On being refused he made use of insulting language, and broke the windows and a scraper. Defendant was fined ss, and ordered to pay 355, amount of damage done, and 17s witnesses expenses. LYTTELTON, Saturday, May 8. Lunacy. —William Ward, on remand, was, upon the certificates of Drs Rouse and Macdonald, committed to the lunatic asylum, Sunnyside. Drunkenness.— John Brown, arrested by Constable McGorman, charged with this offence, was fined 10s. The fine was paid. Drunk and Disorderly. William Bmit, arrested by Constable Beck, charged with the above offence, was fined 10s or forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. The fine was paid. The same prisoner was charged with damaging the constable’s waterproof cloak when being taken to the lock-up, and ordered to pay £1 for damage done.
