CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, May 3. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness. —Cornelius Connor, who had been admitted to bail, and who appeared in Court in a state of intoxication, was ordered to be locked up for twenty-four hours for contempt. John Green, fined ss. Theresa Dixon, an old offender, was fined 40s and cautioned not to appear again. Samuel Tierney, fined ss. Illegally on Premises. James Gillespie was charged with being illegally in the stable of Mr James Hogg, Tuam street, last night without permission. Defendant said that he did not remember being in the stable. The Bench fined defendant 10s, John Bickle was charged with being in a new building erecting by Mr Buxton in the Whately road shortly after midnight without permission. Defendant, who had nothing to say, was fined 10s. Wife Desertion.—An information against Matthew Longdon, for deserting his wife Sarah Longdon, was dismissed, as neither of the parties appeared. LYTTELTON. Saturday, May Ist. [Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.J Married Women's Property Protec tion Act. —Bethia Street applied, through Mr Nalder, for an order for protection of her earnings from her husband, T. G. Street; also for maintenance money. The plaintiff stated that it was six months since she had received anything from him, and she had to work to sustain herself; also that the defendant was constantly drunk and ill-treated her. The Bench granted both applications, the order for protection to issue from February 16th last, the applicant to have exclusive custody of her three children, and ordered that the husband pay 20s per week maintenance money for their support.
