MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, April 30. [Before His Worship the Mayor.] Indecency.— Thomas Jones, charged with indecency in Hagley Park, was fined 20s.
Illegally on Premises.— John Smith, who, on the previous night,* was found lying in an unfinished house in Tuam street without permission, was discharged with a caution, as there was nothing previously against his character, and he stated that, having no money to pay for a bed, he' had gone into the place to lie down, intending to start in the morning for Rangiora, where he was going to work.
Obscene Language —John John Johnston, for being drunk and using obscene language and against whom there were two previous convictions was fined 40s. Illegally on Premises.— Richard Hunt, Mary Maule, a’id W. H. Bolton, were charged with being illegally on premises. It appeared that the defendants were found in two unfinished houses in Tuam street. Hunt and the female defendant were together in one house and Bolton was in another. Against Hunt there was nothing previously, and he was discharged with a caution. Bolton who had been before convicted of drunkenness was sentenced to forty-eight hours’ imprisonment, there being no option of line with the Bench, and the female who is a disorderly prostitute, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labor.
