THE AUSTRALIAN CORN MARKET.
The “Argus” of thel2th ult reports:—The market for breadstuff's is a trifle easier as far as regards flour, but wheat has been moving freely at very full rates. Flour, which was formerly selling at £lO 12s 6d, has dropped to £lO 10s, and though small lots are still making £lO 12s 6d, the sales at this figure are quite exceptional. A good business, however, has been done at £lO 10s. Wheat has met with a very good inquiry, and at the auction sales of the week full prices have been realised. At Tuesday’s sale 4s 8d to 4s was obtained. On Wednesday 800 bags were cleared off’at 4s 9d, and a parcel of 150 bags was placed at 4s B|d. On Thursday 4s 9d to 4s 9jd was obtainable for milling, and 4s IOJd was realised for a small parcel for seed. On Friday and Saturday no special sales wore recorded, but the week closes with a steadily supported market. Supplies from the country districts amount to 4100 bags of wheat and 2300 bags of flour. In feeding grains the demand for seed oats has helped very materially to support that grain; for feeding sorts inquiries have not been so brisk. On Tuesday 4500 bushels Tasmanian were disposed of at 3s 9d to 4s 2d for low to good feed, while 4s 41jd to 4s was got for seed, and at another auction sale on the same day a range of 4s Id to 4s 7d was made. On Wednesday 400 bags were quitted at 4s Cd to 4s 7d for good seed .qualities, and 4s 3d to 4s 4d tor a medium. On Thursday there was little done ; but on Friday, 1100 bags sold privately, ex Alhambra, were placed at up to 4s 3d. From Lyttelton we have advices to 29th March. Wheat has been sold at 3s i-Jd, being a slight advance to complete an order. Most of the stores were full of grain, and with a continuance of fine weather it was expected that supplies would come forward too rapidly for the storage accommodation which aould be found. Oats were firm at 2s 3d for fine, and 2s 6d for good milling, at Christchurch railway station. Harley was selling at very high prices j malting was saleable at 5s in Christchurch, and discolored lots were quoted at 4s 6d. Maize has dropped since the week commenced, and for the last day or two has been selling at 5s to 5s Id. Malting barley has been in very great request, and extreme prices have been realised. One line of 4000 bushels sold privately was placed at 6s, and another parcel of 2500 bushels was quitted at a like figure; while at auction, a lew hundred bags were cleared off at 5s 6d to 6s lv,d. Cape feeding sorts were at the same time disposed of at 4s id to 4s 6d. Bran has advanced to Is 3d, at which sales are making. Pollard is quoted at Is 2d Victorian oatmeal is moving oft' quietly but steadily at £3O.
