Beautiful Star, Captain Pietersen, left Dunedin on Friday, at 5.30 p.m. arrived at Timaru at 8 a.m. on Saturday, left again at 6 p.m. same day, and arrived in Lyttelton Harbour, and moored to Screw-pile jetty at 9 a.m. yesterday. Experienced stroug N.E. gale from Dunedin to Timaru, aud very heavy sea, aud from thence light southerly winds She has about 35 tons cargo for this port, and sails for South today. The Avalanche ship will finish loading about Tuesday (to-morrow). bOO sacks wheat were put Into a lighter alongside the (jli'dstone Pier on Saturday for this ►bip, and we understand this is the last of her grain cargo. The brigantiue Esther, Captain Johnston, arrired in harbor at 3a.m.,from Pelorus Sound. The captain reports that he left the Sound on Tuesday, April 13th, at 8 a.m., with light N.YV. winds.passedCape Campbell on Friday at 3 a.m., from thence strong NE. winds; arrived off the Kaikoras at 2 p.m. the same day, entered Godley Heads at 2 a.m. on Saturday, and arrived as above. She brings a full cargo of timber, consigned to I'. Laurie. The s.s. Taranaki, Captain Lloyd, arrived in harbor on Saturday at 3.45 p.m, from Dunedin. The purser reports that he left Port Chalmers at noon on the 16th, experienced a stiong gale from the N.E., with head sea; passed Akaroa at noon on Saturday, and arrived as above. As will be seen, the Taranaki's passage, though twenty-five hours in length, was a very good one compared to the Star of the South's in the same gale, more especially as Captain Lloyd kept the steamer close to the land on account of having two valuable race horses on board for the autumn meeting here. We may say they were landed none the worse for their trip. The Taranaki sailed tor North at 10.30 p.m. on Saturday. The barque Moneynick, Captain Moreton, arrived in harbor yesterday at 6.30 p.m., from llokianga. She left that port, on April 10th at 11 a.m., with light N.E. winds; passed Cape Egmont at 11 a.m. on the 11th, in company with a schooner name not known; passed Cape Campbell at midnight on the 12th; arrived oIT the Kaikoras on Tuesday, April 13th, from thence strong S.W. winds, which lasted until Friday; from that date frong N.E. winds; entered Godley Heads at 6 p.m. the same §p.y, and arrived as above. The captain reports—passed a barque with immigrants at 10 a.m. on Friday, bound North.

The A.S.P. Company's s.s. Star of the South, Captain Palmer, arrived in harbor on Saturday at 4 p.m from Dunedin. The captain reports that he left that port at 1.30 p.m, on the 15th instant ; experienced a strong;. ale from the N.E., with heavy sea; passed Akarok at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday, and arrived as above, the passage occupying no less than fifty-one hours. She sails for the North at 4 p.m. this day. The barque Cyrene was reported seven miles off the Heads on Saturday morning, lifty-six days out from San Francisco. She merely called for instructions as to where she was to proceed, and was at once ordered to go on to Timaru. She was off' the Heads all Saturday night and a portion of yesterday.
