CANTERBURY RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

The firing for the prizes offered by the Canterbury Rifle Association commenced yesterday at the Hillsborough range, and through the admirable manner in which the arrangements had been made, the firing was got through expeditiously without a hitch occurring. Five targets had been provided, two markers being stationed at each target. Lieut-Colonel Packe was in command on the ground. The weather, although rather boisterous in the early morning, and subject to sudden shifts of wind, was on the whole very favorable to shooting. The following is a list of the events shot off yesterday:— The Civilian’s Cup, open to all members of the ORA (not volunteers) —Distances 200 and 800 yards; number of shots, five at each range; position, any ; entrance fee, 2s fid; rifle, any, any pull, PRIZES. Ist prize—article, value £3 ; 2nd prize, £2.

No score less than 66 points to win the cup. Any com' petitor not scoring an average of outers at the two first ranges, to retire. The cup to be won twice by the same person before it becomes his property. Ties to he decided under Wimbledon regulations. Entrance fee, 2s 6d, PHIZES. Ist prize—The Challenge Cup, and Gold Medal value £3 2nd prize—Silver Medal, value £2 3rd prize—article, value £1
