A celebrated physician says that pressing the upper lip is., a preventive of sneezinge which perhaps accounts for the fact, hitherto so unexplainable, that lovers seldom sneez, when courting. The (ireat Western Railway Ironworks at Reading were destroyed by fire on Dec 17th, The fire broke out at half-past two o’clock, and water could not be obtained for an hour and a half. Four engines were present, but they could only save the signal sheds and another ironworks. More than four hundred men are thrown out of employment by the fire, and the damage is estimated at £20,000, y. E. THE following extract from the tions for the Registration of Ijfe Policies is published for general information ; 1. Every policy-holder, y; no suc h i n respect of a policy granted or entered into in New Zealand by a< Company who sh all have made a deposit of securities under the Life Assurance Companies Act, 1873, may, if the policy or contract has been made before thQ Commencement of the said Act, register such policy with the Public Trustee within twelve months after the commencement of the said Act, but not after ; and if made after the commencement of the said Act, then within six months after the making thereof. (N.B. —The Ist of November, 1873, ip fixed as the commencement of the Act.) 2. The person intending to register a policy shall either deliver the same to the Public, Trustee at his office in Wellington, or ma y deliver the same to an agent ; and evo’ry such person shall make application to register such policy in a form which ca n be obtained at any Post Office in the colo Q y at Which Money Orders are issued. $. The Public Trustee shall ma 7 xe and keep a book for the registration of policies, in which the particulars of eacJ j policy shall be recorded. 4. There shall be paid to tbe Public Trustee by the policy-holder ** fee of five shillings on the registration thereof. 6. Each policy shall bear a registration number according to the order in which it has been received, and when registered the Public Trustee shall make arid sign a memorandum thereon in the form or to the effect following:— No. Registered in pursuance of the Life Assurance Companies Act, 187 S, this day of 18 .
