SOUTH CANTERBURY ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
( Thna.ru Herald .) A committee meeting of the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society was held on the 6th inst. Present—Messrs Luxmore (in the chair). Elworthy, A. Perry, Meyer, Russell, Turnbull, Bristol, and Davidson, The following resolutions were passed :—“ That his Honor the Superintendent be applied to as patron of this society, to obtain for the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society a fair share of the birds now to arrive to the order of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, which have been paid for by vote of the Provincial Council, a portion of which vote will necessarily be charged against South Canterbury ; that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his Honor the Superintendent and Provincial Secretary.” “That the Government be requested to place on the next estimates the sum of £2OO for the erection of an aviary in the Timaru domain, and for providing for the care and looking after of the birds ; also for a further sum of £3OO for acclimatisation purposes, to be placed at the disposal of this society ; a copy of this resolution to be forwarded to his Honor the Superintendent and the Provincial Secretary.” “ That the Domain Board be requested to grant for the purposes of acclimatisation, such facilities as may be required.” “That Messrs Perry, Russell, Davidson,and Bristol be appointed a sub-committee, to receive and purchase birds for the Society; three to form a quorum.” “ That it be a recommendation to the committee to distribute the birds which may be received from the Provincial Government, as far as possible, equitably throughout South Canterbury, selecting the localities in their opinion best fitted for the different varieties.” " Tnat the sub-committee be authorised to erect an aviary and take such steps as may be necessary in their opinion to provide for the proper care of birds, &c., on their arrival.” “ That the members of the committee be requested to collect subscriptions for the society.” Considerably over £2OO has been already collected and a large number of subscriptions are yet to come in. From the above it will be seen that the committee are collecting the funds, and it will tend very much to the success of the society if intending subscribers will hand over their subscriptions as early as possible.
