MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, March 1. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.] DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. The following inebriates were dealt with : Thomas Walsh, fined 10s; William Hall, 10s and cab hire ; James Barnes, 5s ; Wm and Elizabeth Reid, 5s each and cab hire ; Daisy Comfort, an old offender, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labor as a vagrant; Thomas Campbell, 10s; Thomas Cock, 10s ; and Edward Goodacre, 10s. JUMPING OUT OF A RAILWAY CARRIAGE, William McCloskie was charged with jumping out of a railway carriage while in motion at the Dunsandel station on Saturday night last, and fined 10s. DRUNK AND INDECENT EXPOSURE. Samuel Smith, arrested for this offence, and also charged with resisting the police, was fined 10s and cab hire. DRUNK AND USING OBSCENE LANGUAGE. Frank Welstead and Mary Welstead, charged with being drunk and using obscene language on Saturday night in Gloucester street were each fined 10s and cautioned. ILLEGALLY ON PREMISES. William McKay was charged on remand with being found illegally in Mr Gresson’s office in Fisher’s Buildings on Saturday morning last. Mr Gresson stated that the accused had no right to be there. He did not know the man. Constable Beck re-called said that Mr Moore, who had an office in the same building, told him that he had given the accused the key of the front door to go in. His Worship did not think there had been any felonious intent, and dismissed the charge. A second charge of escaping from legal custody was preferred against McKay. The man had walked away from the Court on Saturday under the impression that he had been dismissed. Case dismissed, ILLEGALLY ON PREMISES. John Watson and Wm May were charged with being found illegally in the White Hart stables early this morning, May was discharged, and Watson, who was drunk at the time, was fined 10s. DRUNK AND CREATING A DISTURBANCE. William Smith and Anna Smith were charged with being drunk and creating a disturbance in the Ellesmere Arms Hotel, Tai Tapu. Sergeant Pratt stated that from information received at the depot he went out there on Saturday, and found the prisoners in the custody of the landlord of that hotel. A number of panes of glass were broken, and other property destroyed, but the row was over. The female was not drunk when he got there. The prisoners were remanded until Tuesday, for the evidence of the landlord of the hotel; to be admitted to bail until then. LYTTELTON. Saturday, February 27. [Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.] LUNACY. William Spray was brought up on remand from yesterday, charged with this offence, and dismissed. DESERTION. William Charles Anstey, a seaman belonging to the Langston, was charged with this offence. Captain Mitchell stated that the accused deserted in Wellington. Sentenced to one month’s imprisonment. DRUNKENNESS. John Wm. Flesher, arrested by Sergeant Maguire, charged with this offence, was dismissed with a caution.
