UPPER HEATHCOTE SCHOOL.

The annual treat was given to the children attending this school on Thursday last. Sir Cracroft Wilson and Lady Wilson were present. About half-past ten the children were marched into the school, where a number of valuable prizes were handed by the chairman to those pupils who had gained them during last year. The prizes were provided by the school committee, and those for sewing by Lady Wilson, who complimented Miss Seager on the good sewing of the girls, considering how young they were. Mr Whiting proposed a vote of thanks to the chairman and Lady Wilson for their attendance on that occasion. Sir Cracroft replied that it was a pleasure to Lady Wilson and himself to be present that day, and that they would be always glad to do anything in their power for the good of the school. The children, accompanied by the Suhnyside band, were then marched into a paddock belonging to Mr Fantham, who kindly provided a tent for the occasion. Various kinds of sports and games were then engaged in till a late hour in the evening. Mrs Harrap and also Mrs Fantham, assisted by other ladies, were kept busy all day superintending the eatables, of which there was a great abundance. Several members of the committee, and parents and friends of the children were present during the day. It may be stated that the school [committee had appointed a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Whiting, Meares, Harrap, and Raxworthy, to carry out the details of the entertainment, which they did in a manner creditable to themselves and satisfactory to all concerned.
