ROAD BOARDS.

♦ AVON. The Board met on Monday, February 22nd. There were present—Messrs Peacock, Dickinson, and Laine. Mr Peacock took the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The clerk reported the receipt of £1 3s lOd, and the overdraft at the bank as £3GO 12s sd. Messrs Kruse and Boyfield saw the Board in relation to the land to be given for the drain between Horner's land and Kruse's, and others. TT After reading a letter from Mr Horner about the same matter, the Board said, as there appeared to be a dispute as to their respective boundaries, the Board could not interfere, but if the necessary land was conveyed to the Board for drainage purposes, the Board would endeavor to provide proper drainage. Mr Mitchell saw the Board in reference to the continuation of the track to his farm. It was settled that the surveyor should go with him and see what was required to be done to the road. Messrs Torleton and McFadden saw the Board to complain that the work done to the drain running through their land did not give the drainage required. The Board said that the surveyor would see what*was required to be done. Mr Poninghans saw the Board in reference to his footbridge having been removed in clearing the drain, and the earth thrown out and removed at Papanui. He was told that, with regard to the small quantity of earth taken away, the surveyor would let him have some for the pu pose of putting in the pipes again. Mr Wilson saw the Board, and asked'when the road leading to his house was likely to be formed. He was told that it would be considered amongst other works to be carried out during the present year. Messrs King and others saw the Board, and asked that the road leading to the Styx bridge might be made passable. They were informed that this matter would be gone into with other works required to be considered. Mr Spencer saw the Board in reference to a claim of £5 for extra work done at the fetyx Bridge. Keferred to the chairman for his decision. A letter was read from Mr Hoadley, in reference to the state of the side drain in Carlton place. Beferred to the surveyor. One from the Papanui school committee, complaining of the side drains near the school, and also requesting the Board to cause the road to be repaired. Beferred to the surveyor. One from Mr Walton, in reference to the overflowing of the drain at the back of his house. The surveyor Eaid that the matter was being attended to. One from Mr Sycamore, in reference to the deposit forfeited. A reply to be sent that the deposit was forfeited in consequence of his not having carried out a contract entered into by him. One from Mr Murdrew, offering the Board gravel from his pit at a price named therein, the clerk to reply that the offer would be remembered by the Board when it wanted gravel. Tenders were opened for the Bottle Lake road, for a brick culvert, for shingling New Brighton road, and for clearing main drains. A tender for each of the three first works was accepted, but the last was declined as excessive. A letter was read from the Government, informing the Board that the footpaths would be gazetted shor ly as requested. One from the Kiccarton Road Board, in reference to shingling the Boundary road at Papanui. The surveyor was directed to report as to the necessity of the work. The consideration of the applications for working foreman was adjourned in consequence of the lateness of the hours. It was decided that A. Bountree's contract for cutting a drain be cancelled, the work not being completed, and the time given having been exceeded. Accounts to the amount of £9B 8s were passed, and ordered to be paid, and the Board adjourned.
