MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, February 26. (Before'Dr Back, J.P.) wife desertion. J. W. Christensen was brought up on this charge. Accused had given himself up to the police when he heard he was being looked for, and on the application of his wife the Bench allowed the charge to be withdrawn. DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. Jessie Andrews, an old offender, who had been cautioned when last before the Court, was given one more chance, and fined 10s and cab hire. William Burt, arrested on the Papanui road for drunkenness, was fined ss. DRUNK AND CREATING A DISTURBANCE. Jules Scelle and Thomas Walsh were charged with being drunk and creating a disturbance in the Borough Hotel the previous night. From the evidence of Mr Priston, landlord of the hotel, it was shown that Walsh had been the aggressor, and he was fined 20s and Scelle 10s. LUNACY FROM DRINK. George Wilkin, who had been remanded for medical treatment, was again brought up. Mr Reston, chief gaoler, told the bench that the accused had recovered from the effects of drink. Inspector Buckley observed that this man had been repeatedly before the Bench on this charge. His Worship considered it would be better for the accused if he were locked up for a term to enable him to recover thoroughly, and sentenced him to one month's imprisonment with hard labor.
