DISTRICT PRIZE FIRING.
The first of the series of district prize matches took place yesterday at the Heathcote range, Lieutenant-Colonel Packe in command. The Yeomanry Cavalry were the competitors. The prizes were four in number, viz, £4, £3, £2, and £l, the ranges being 150 yards, 200 yards, and 300 : seven shots at each range. As will be seen by the score, the winners were Trooper Rentoul, 71 points, Ist prize ; Trooper Dunbar, 68 points, 2nd prize ; Sergeant Anson, 63 points, 3rd prize ; Bandsman Hunsley, 63 points, 4th prize. The weather was unfavorable for good shooting, a strong S.W. wind, with drizzling rain, prevailing. The following are the scores :
