Grain has come forward freely during the week, and the millers now have sufficient supplies ot wheat to keep them going for some time. Flour has receded to £lO per ton, but it cannot be maintained any length of time at that price with wheat at 3s, which is the top market quotation to-day. English telegraphic advices are most unfavorable, as average samples of New Zealand wheat arefcmly fetching 40s per 4961b5, with every prospect of considerable lower rates ruling- ere long. With the English market in this state it is impossible to make shipments with a reasonable prospect of netting COSt, anil yet there ie no other market to absorb the probable surplus at any price. Bran has been sold at £3 10s. Oats are easier iu value, 2s 9d being the current quotation, but very few buyers are prepared to operate heavily at over 2s 6d. Barley lias been quitted during the week at 4s 3d to 4s (id. Butter is iirm at 9d, and it is expected higher prices will rule ere long. Cheese is steady at (id to «M. Hams and bacon appear out of curers' hands. There has been a fair amount of activity in the import markets during the past week.
