HOT PURSUIT OF A FAITHFUL LOVER BY HIS DISCARDED MISTRESS.

We have poetical authority for the belief that, when trusting woman has been jilted, “ the only charm her grief to cover, to hide her shame from every eye, to bring repentance to her lover, and wring his bosom, is to die ; ” but such does not seem to be the case, and such is certainly not the belief of Miss Dunphy, of Nevada. Hers was the old story. The leaves of summer were green when A. J. Wilson plighted her his troth, and took the oaths customary upon such occasions ; the leaves of autumn were scarcely brown when he married a Miss Matthews, and left Miss Dunphy to mourn her own dead hopes and man’s deep perfidy. But the reports from Nevada do not indicate that Miss Dunphy is mourning to any particular extent, though she has certainly evinced a good deal of feeling. The honeymoon of A. J. Wilson is not yet ended, but already has he been shut at three times by Miss Dunphy, and if ho has not been hit the fault lias been solely m Miss Dunphy’s marksmanship, and not in her intentions. The present perturbation of mind under which Mr Wilson labors is enhanced, too, by the fact that Miss Dunphy is evidently improving in her shooting, the last shot grazing his chin, though the first two missed him altogether. The position of Mr Wilson is in fact a delicate one, and if he has any real affection for the woman he married, in place of the revengeful lady who is after him, he will insure his life heavily, and at once.
