MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, January 29. (Before R. J. S. Harman, Esq, and Dr Back, J.P.’s.) DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. George Soar, arrested for this offence, was discharged with a caution. Thomas Ward was fined 10s. VAGRANCY. Herman von Jetson, charged with vagrancy, was remanded until Monday for the production of evidence. LUNACY FROM DRINK. Timothy Fahey was remanded until Saturday for medical examination. larceny. Christiana Don White was charged with the larceny of two rabbits from Mrs Hoft. The prosecutrix had lost four rabbits about a fortnight ago, and two of the rabbits produced, identified by the prosecutrix as belonging to her, had been found at defendant’s place at Addington. The defendant said her children had kept a number of rabbits for years. She did not know how many, as it was her children who took care of them. Their rabbits were running about, and she did not know whether the rabbits in Court belonged to her or the prosecutrix. If the woman had come to her, and said the rabbits belonged to her, she should have had them. The Bench said they had no doubt, but what the rabbits had been stolen, bnt as the defendant might not have been aware of this, they would give her the benefit of that probability. She must, however, look after her children better in future. Case dismissed.
