KAIAPOI ELECTION.

The official declaration of the poll was

made at the Courthouse, Kaiapoi, on Monday by G. L. Mellish, Esq, Beturning Officer. Only a few electors were present. The numbers were as already announced, viz : Kaiapoi. Bangiora. Total. Hon 0. C. Bowen... 182 ... 112 ... 294 Mr Beswick ... 154 ... 38 ... 192 Majority for Hon 0. C. Bowen ... 102 The candidates briefly thanked the electors. The Hon Mr Bowen saying he had to thank them for their confidence in him. He wished to know no difference between those who had voted for and who had voted against him. He now considered himself a Kaiapoi district man, and so long as the district stuck to him, he would stick to it. He promised to do his best for it, but trusted the electors, if anything went ajar, would suspend their judgment till they had heard explanations. His efforts would be to bear the district in mind, and not overlook the requirements of the colony as a whole. The Hon Mr Bowen then proceeded to Woodend and Bangiora, at which latter place he delivered a similar address to the above in the Boad Board office, thanking the electors for the interest shown to secure hia return. Replying to questions, he stated that as often as convenient and necessary he should meet the electors, and always intended to offer himself as candidate at the general elections for the representation of that district. The hon gentleman was everywhere well received.
