The Sydney Morning Herald learns that an action has been commenced in the Court of Queen’s Bench by the Governments of New South Wales and New Zealand against Mr Hall, one of the joint contractors, and Mr Debussche, one of the sureties, for the temporary Pacific Mail Service, to recover the amount of a bond of £25,000. Sir Henry James, Q.C., and Mr Deunistown Wood are retained for the plaintiffs, and Mr Tinley for the defendant Debussche. The evidence of Mr Hall was taken at great length on the 16th of November, to prove the due execution of the bond and other facts. An action is also commenced in the Supreme Court of New York against Mr Forbes, joint contractor with Mr Hall for the service ; and another action in the State of Massachusetts against Mr Cunningham, the other surety. The ship Warwick arrived to-day from London, after the passage of 102 days. The immigrants are all well. Sailed —City of Melbourne, for San Francisco New Plymouth, Jan 22. Arrived—Avalanche, at 3 a.m. this morning with 230 passengers, seventy for Wellington. She had fine weather all the way out. The passage occupied 92 days from land to land. All are well. There was no sickness during the voyage. She leaves for Wellington to-day. Wellington, Jan 22. Colonel Fielding and Mr Halcombe started yesterday by coach for Fielding Block, which now contains an exceedingly populous township. Recent arrivals thence speak less hopefully of the prospects of the immigrants of the company than has been the practice hitherto. It is stated that directly a license is granted for the new public house in the course of erection, another license will be applied for on behalf of the present accommotion house.
