FATAL ACCIDENT.

LOSS OF THREE LIVES AT SUMNER. An accident, unhappily resulting in the loss of three lives, occurred yesterday at Sumner. From what we can learn it appears that Messrs J. and A. Day, Bohn, Terry, C. Morton {son of Mr J. W. Morton) and Bush, went in a whaleboat fishing outside, the bar. About five o'clock they were seen returning, and when in the first roller outside the break the stern of the boat was lifted so high that the steer oar had no power, and the boat fell broadside on, the next roller capsizing her. The men were enabled to catch hold of the boat and clung to her, Mr J. Day giving Master Morton a hand on to the keel. Mr A. Day, who is a powerful swimmer, at once made for the shore as he was, but J. Day and -Morton took their clothes off and struck out for land. After they had left the boat, the people who had collected on the beach saw the three men still clinging to the boat until she drifted further into the breakers, when they were washed off and disappeared. A. Day reached the shore in a very exhausted state, and both J. Day and Master Morton were also alike fortunate in reaching land; but very much done up. It was impossible to render the unfortunate men who were clinging to the boat any assistance, as the whaleboat in which the accident occurred was the only one at Sumner that could have been sent with any degree of safety, and the distance from the beach to the scene of the accident was about three quarters of a mile. Mr Terry was, we believe, a storekeeper, and the other two, whom it is said were only recently married, were temporarily residing at Sumner. The body of Bohn was discovered at an early hour this morning on the beach.
