AVON ROAD BOARD ELECTION.
The election of three members for the Avon Road Board in place of Messrs Dickenson, Duncan, and Norman, who retired by rotation, took place on Saturday. The three gentlemen above named stood for re-election, and Messrs Laine, Munro, and Joblin were also candidates. Very little excitement, compared with some former years, was shown as to the result. The attendance was not large at any part of the day. Mr B. G. Wright, chairman of f he old Board, acted as returning officer, and Messrs Abbot and De Troy as deputy returning officers at Styx and Bingsland respectively. The poll closed at four o clock, and at half-past four Mr Wright declared the result as follows:
Mr Dickenson was not present, but Mr Robert Duncan and Mr Laine returned thanks, the former remarking that as the three successful candidates came out in the same ship they ought to pull together. One or two complimentary remarks were made by those present as to the manner in which Mr Haskins had performed his duties as clerk to the Board, after which the crowd dispersed.
