SUPREME COURT.

CRIMINAL SITTINGS. Thursday, January 7. [Before his Honor Mr. Justice Gresson.] The sitting of the Court was resumed at 10 a.m. this day. HORSESTEALING. Henry Keetly was indicted for having stolen one gelding, the property of Walpole Cheshire Fendall. The prisoner pleaded “Not Guilty.” Mr Duncan appeared to prosecute on behalf of the Crown. Mr Joynt for the defence. Mr Cowan was chosen foreman of the petty jury. The facts of the case were as follows : The prosecntor had a number of horses running on his farm at Leithlield, and about the Bth April he missed two horses from running there. From information subsequently recei zed, the prosecutor went to the farm of the prisoner, and there saw a horse tied to the fence, near prisoner’s house. The prosecutor recognised the horse as being one of those missed by him. In reply to the prosecutor, the prisoner stated he had got the horse on the plains, near Captain Row’s, and that he thought the horse belonged to David Thow ; but finding it did not, he had kept the horse and worked him. Prosecutor claimed the horse, and prisoner at once handed him over. Subsequently, acting under instructions from Inspector Barsham, the prosecutor laid the criminal information. Mr Duncan called evidence in support of the indictment. Counsel having addressed the jury, His Honor summoned up, and the jury returned a verdict of “Not Guilty.” HOUSEBREAKING AND LARCENY. John Buchanan pleaded “ Not Guilty ” to a charge of breaking into the house of one Henry Hopkinson, and stealing therefrom sixty knives, seventeen scissors, and four casca, of -fclxc valno nf £o.
