(Per Anglo- Australian Press Telegraph Agency.) Wellington, December 28. Mr T. B. Gillies has been offered and has accepted one of the Judgeships, Mr Gresson retires on a pension in preference to leaving Christchurch. Mr Justice Chapman will retire on condition that Judge Ward does not succeed him. A permanent Judgeship and acting Judgeship are still vacant. It is rumored that Sir George Grey will stand for the City West, Auckland, in the place of Mr Gillies. Messrs McMeckan, Blackwood, and Co have formally intimated to the Victorian Government that they will not give Sullivan a passage in one of their steamers, THIS HATS TELEGRAMS. Wellington, December 29. A Judgeship in New Zealand has been offered to Mr Higginbotham, of Victoria. It is not thought likely that he will accept it. It is reported that the customs authorities will proceed against the Steam Company for carrying too many excursionists yesterday. Dunedin. December 29. A private company has been formed to construct a line, five miles in length, to connect the Kaitangata coalfields with the main south line at Balclutha. Other private railway companies are being formed. [FROM OUR DUNEDIN CORRESPONDENT.] A fire broke out in the malt kiln at \V ilson’s, Well Park brewery, this afternoon, but was extinguished before much damage was done. The loss will not exceed a few hundreds, and is well covered by insurance.
